Volkswagen will debut an affordable yet upscale vehicle for the 2017 model year to compete with existing all-wheel drive wagons, such as the Subaru Outback and Volvo XC70. The Golf Alltrack takes the practicality and thrill of the SportWagen and adds the capability of the 4Motion® all-wheel drive system.

Combined with a 4-wheel independent suspension and an elevated ride height, the new Alltrack will take you places no other Volkswagen Golf can. The exclusive Haldex-5 coupling detects if your wheels are slipping and instantly transfers torque from the front wheels to all four wheels. There is also the option to set the driving selector to “Off Road,” enabling hill descent control and shortening the braking distances on loose surfaces.

Tough on the Outside, Refined on the Inside

The rugged nature of the Alltrack is accentuated by its silver roof rails, aggressive front and rear fascia, and 17-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, the driver and passengers are greeted by a luxurious cabin featuring unique leatherette upholstery, ambient lighting, and a 6.5” touchscreen infotainment system with proximity sensor and rearview camera.

And don’t forget about the standard leather-wrapped tilting and telescopic steering wheel.

The Alltrack’s trunk boasts an impressive 30.4 cubic feet of cargo space — folding down the 60/40 split rear seat brings that number to 66.5 cubic feet. Upgrading from the S trim to the SE or SEL model brings even more amenities, including an exclusive Fender® premium audio system.

Under the hood, the Alltrack’s power plant is an EA888 1.8L 4 cylinder TSI engine:

  • 170 horsepower

Coupled to a 6-speed dual-clutch DSG for the first production vehicles. Volkswagen will release a 6-speed manual transmission at a later date.

Safety has always been a primary concern for Volkswagen, and the Alltrack is no exception. The vehicle’s standard six airbags and a number of passive and active safety features have earned it a 5-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

While no official release date has been set for the 2017 VW Golf Alltrack, it is scheduled go on sale sometime in the fall of 2016, with an expected starting price of $26,670. Keep up to date with everything Volkswagen by following Harmony Motors of Asheville on social media.
